He received a bachelor's degree in business from Pepperdine University in 1968, after which he was drafted into the army during the Vietnam War. He served 4 years,during which time he rose from the lowest rank of Enlisted 1 to 1st Lieutenant. After the army, he was a police officer for L.A.P.D. for 6 years.
Steve has lived in Oak Park for 33 years with his wife Maureen of 40 years. They have 3 children and 8 grandchildren.
